Overview

Nestled between the renown hill stations of Lonavala and Karjat, the Rajmachi Fort Trek is one of the best trekking options in Maharashtra. This trek offers the magnificent Sahyadri views, greenery, waterfalls and historical significance, making it an ideal mix of adventure, history and nature, and popular among trekkers, history buffs, photographers, and weekend explorers from Mumbai and Pune.

The trail is about 16km long and is at an altitude of about 2750ft, and ends at two historic forts, Shrivardhan Fort and Manaranjan Fort. The forts are steeped in history, featuring stone paths, historic bastions and picturesque view points that provide stunning vistas of the Sahyadri mountains and the surrounding Konkan valleys.

There are several ways to hike the trail:

Lonavala Route (Beginner Friendly): Another longer but easier route through rich forests, streams and green valleys and a route which leads to the forts in about 4-5 hours.

Kondhane Route (Challenging): A more adventurous and steep route, it takes about 2.5–3 hours and offers exciting climbs and dramatic viewpoints for trekkers.

The entire area becomes a green paradise during monsoon (June to September) when water falls, mists, clouds and cool mountain weather prevail. It is pleasant to trek in the winter and enjoy the panoramic views. En route, trekkers will have the opportunity to experience the streams, rocky paths, jungle trails and viewpoints, making it a full Sahyadri experience.

The Rajmachi Fort Trek is an ideal way to experience history, nature, and adventure all in one, making it a memorable journey in the Western Ghats, whether you're on a trek for adventure, photography, or historical exploration.
